God Will Make a Way

When I was a sophomore in college, I told my religion professor that I was called to the ministry.

She answered, “That’s great, Brother Larry! Now we’ve got to get you ready for seminary.”

I said, “Seminary? I’m not going to seminary.”

She said, “If you’re not going to seminary, what do you plan on doing?”

I said, “I figured I’d just get up and start preaching.”

After she looked at me like I had something hanging out of my nose, she said, “If you had to go into surgery, would you want a surgeon who hadn’t been to school? Would you want a surgeon who just got up and decided they were going to be a surgeon?”

I said, “Uh, no.”

Then I said, “Professor, I can’t go to seminary. When I graduate, I want a job. I need to earn a living. If I go to seminary, I’ll have to wait even longer to earn a living.”

As she walked to her car, she turned around and yelled, “Don’t worry about that, Brother Larry! God will make a way! He always does!”

Then she drove off.

That conversation took place twenty-eight years ago.

Today, several degrees later, I can attest that she was right: God will make a way. God always does!
