A while back, I tried to clean my oven. It’s a self-cleaning oven.
But when I used the self-proclaimed self-cleaning feature that Sunday, it didn’t work out so well.
First of all, it set off all nine smoke detectors in my house.
When I opened the windows, the smoke detectors kept going off.
I turned on some fans. That didn’t help. Even after I pulled the batteries out of the smoke detectors, they kept screaming.
I had a real live fire drill at my house!
Not only did this so-called self-cleaning oven cause chaos in my house. But to make matters worse, it didn’t work!
So later that night, after my so-called self-cleaning oven failed me, I grabbed the Easy-Off oven cleaner from the pantry. The good stuff.
An hour after I sprayed the Easy-Off, I easily wiped the oven clean.
It sparkled like Joe Pesci’s gold tooth in Home Alone.
The oven couldn’t clean itself.
But the Easy-Off could.
The Easy-Off could do for the oven what the oven could not do for itself.
Like the Easy-Off, God can do for you what you cannot do for yourself.
God can help you when you can’t help yourself. God can keep you when you can’t keep yourself. God can lift you when you can’t lift yourself.
