Try Something Different

In Dr. Seuss’s classic book Green Eggs and Ham, Sam-I-am seeks to convince his friend to eat green eggs and ham.

But initially, Sam’s friend doesn’t want any parts of green eggs and ham, for he says to Sam:

I do not like them in a box.

I do not like them with a fox.

I will not eat them in a house.

I do not like them with a mouse.

I do not like them here or there.

I do not like them ANYWHERE!

Sam then replies:

You do not like them.

So you say.

Try them! Try them!

And you may.

Try them and you may, I say.

So grudgingly, Sam’s friend takes a bite. And once he bites into the green eggs and ham, his eyes light up like Times Square on New Year’s Eve, and then he shouts out:

Dang! These joints on fire!

Well, that’s not exactly what he says. He actually says:

I like green eggs and ham!

I do! I like them, Sam-I-am!

See, Sam’s friend almost missed his blessing because he wasn’t willing to try something different.

And if you want the best that God has prepared for you, if you want the best life available, you may have to try something different.
