Just Look Up!

I teach Religious Studies at Randolph-Macon College.

One semester, I taught Liberation Theology in this state-of-the-art classroom with the latest technology. And during one class period, I attempted to show a clip of hip hop artist Common’s song “Black America Again,” in order to demonstrate the liberative motifs in the track.

I managed to get the video to show on the screen, but we couldn’t hear it, because I couldn’t find the speakers connected to the computer.

I said to the class, “Where are the speakers, y’all?”

My students started laughing at me, saying, “Dr. Enis, the speakers are inside the ceiling.”

I said to the class, “Where are the speakers, y’all?”

I said, “Oh! All I had to do was look up, huh?”

In a similar way, when you can’t find the blessing you’re looking, when you can’t find the help you’re looking for, when you can’t find the strength you’re looking for, just look up to God!
