Checkers, Not Chess

A while back, while playing checkers with some kids at a summer camp, one kid made it to my king’s row, forcing me to crown her.

But after I crowned her, I set her up, so that her king had to jump my man. If she didn’t jump me, I was going to blow her for not jumping me. After her king jumped my man, another one of my men was in position to jump her king.

So I was willing to lose my man in order to gain her king. I was willing to lose something in order to gain something more.

In the same way, Jesus Christ was willing to lose his life on earth, so that we may have abundant, eternal life.
